Indian National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon states that India always envisions an united Sri Lanka within which all citizens can live in equality, justice, dignity and self-respect.
Speaking to the media while on a short tour to Sri Lanka, Menon noted that reconciliation with the Tamil people can be obtained through a political solution.
When asked if India was satisfied with the current measures being taken by the Sri Lankan government, Menon stated that India expects a broader plan from the government.
Menon met President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning, Minister of External Affairs Prof. G L Peiris, Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa, Defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and leader of the TNA R Sampanthan during his tour.
He discussed recent developments, bilateral relations and areas of common concern including steps being taken by the government on political reconciliation and settlement.
