Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya states that a decision has been taken to efface two party insignias in lieu of the upcoming local government polls.

Accordingly he noted that the Dog & Tiger insignias could not be utilized by any political party.

Addressing a media briefing held at the elections secretariat this afternoon, the elections commissioner noted that insignia's such as the parasol, lotus, lion, sickle, hammer & dual swords would also be closely considered when being incorporated as party emblems.

Moreover Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya also noted that propagation activities carried out utilising loud speakers would be proscribed

as per a request tendered in by the Examinations Commissioner.

It is estimated that a cost of 6 billion rupees would be incurred to conduct the upcoming local government polls while 5 local monitoring bodies have been permitted to carry out observations.
