A public petition to remove the two ministers of education from their posts has been initiated by the Lanka Teachers Union.

The gathering of signatures began in front of the Fort railway station today.

The secretary of the Lanka Teachers Union, Mahinda Jayasinghe alleged that the even though it has been 10 days since the Supreme Court verdict was handed down to issue two sets of results for the old and new syllabuses for the previous Advanced level exams, the University Grants Commission has failed to do so.

However the Minister of Education S B Dissanayaka stated in Parliament that a 3 person committee has been appointed to advice the UGC in calculating the Z scores for the advanced level examinations.

He further stated that this committee will be headed by the creator of the Z score, Professor R O Thatil.

The minister made these statements in response to a special statement issued in Parliament by the opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe

However when our news team spoke with Professor R O Thatil he stated that the UGC is yet to speak to him with regards to the new calculations.
