Sri Lanka Government has decided to establish Diplomatic Relations with 15 African countries.

The countries ate Mauritania, Malawi , Burkina Faso, Chad, Djibouti, Central African Republic, Gabon, Cameroon, Ivory Coast,  Guinea, Gambia, Cape Verde, Sierra Leone, Togo and Niger.

Of the 62 countries that are in the African Region 54 are Sovereign States and Sri Lanka maintains residential missions in Egypt, Kenya, South Africa and Libyan.

Sri Lanka's oldest mission in Africa is in Egypt.

A Sri Lankan mission in Nigeria is expected to be opened during the latter part of this year.
