The Chilaw High court today issued a warrant for the arrest of Puttlam District UNP Parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara today.
The warrant was issued against the MP since he had not been present during
court on a previous occasion.
The case filed against MP Palitha Range Bandara for having allegedly vandalised a vehicle opposite the Puttlam Police station was taken up before Chilaw High Court Judge Kumari Gunarathne.
Incidentally Palitha Range Bandara who had been a defendant of the case was issued the warrant for being absent in court when the case was taken up today.
Meanwhile UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara raised a privilege question before parliament today in this regard.
Expressing his sentiments before parliament MP Range Bandara stated that he was unable to attend court proceedings today since he was supposed be present parliament today.
Speaking further he stated that under the privileges extended to him as a parliamentarian he should be vested with the right of being present before parliament although a court case is being heard against him.
Moreover filing his response in this regard speaker Chamal Rajapaksa noted that parliamentarians were permitted attend parliamentary proceedings regardless of pending court cases.
He also noted that steps would be taken to notify the high court judge through Parliamentary Secretary General.
