Five persons including an urban councillor of the Tangalle Urban Council who have been charged with molesting an underage girl at an inn in the Tangalle area have been placed under further custody until the 17th of this month.
The accused who handed themselves over to police through an attorney yesterday were produced before Tangalle Magistrate K.U.T. De Silva
today, who subsequently ordered the suspects to be further remanded.
Moreover urban councillor of the Tangalle urban council Anjana Liyanage is also said to be among the group arrested.
Meanwhile Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Keheliya Rambukwella expressed views concerning escalation of child abuses & the alleged involvement of politicians in such occurrences.
Minister Rambukwella noted that the government will reprimand those proven guilty irrespective of their political stature.
Meanwhile Southern Provincial Councillor Geetha Kumarasinghe expressed her views concerning the recent escalation in child abuses.
Her views were expressed at a function in Alpitiya today.
Moreover police media spokesperson SP Ajith Rohana speaking to our news team noted that 700 such incidents were reported so far during this year alone.
