IFAB approves goal-line technology
Friday, 06 July 2012 - 01:19 PM

FIFA president Sepp Blatter says Frank Lampard's "ghost" goal at the 2010 World Cup was the key factor leading to goal-line technology being introduced.

The International Football Association Board voted unanimously in favour of introducing the technology yesterday.

Lampard's "goal" occurred when England were 2-1 down in the second round against Germany and went on to lose 4-1.

Last month, Ukraine's Marko Devic was denied a goal against England at Euro 2012.

The introduction of goal-line technology may not be popular with everyone.

In December 2010 UEFA president Michel Platini said he believed the technology would lead to "PlayStation football" but Blatter is confident the Frenchman will support the decision.
