Disposable food containers contribute towards the escalation of dengue
Sunday, 08 July 2012 - 01:37 PM

The Ministry of Health states that disposable food containers have contributed towards the escalation of dengue.

The Ministry of Health is of the opinion that disposable dessert cups, soft drink cans as well as food containers once disposed aids in dengue mosquito breeding due to the collection of all forms of water.

29% of the environments conducive to dengue breeding in the Northern province as well as 50% of the environments from the Central & Sabaragamuwa regions

as well as 56 & 67% of the environments conducive to dengue respectively from the North Central & Wayamba provinces were left prone to the disease owing to

the disposal of  such containers.

Hence the ministry of health cautions the public to remain vigilant when making food purchases stored in such containers.
