Provincial councillors engage in hunger strike
Sunday, 08 July 2012 - 08:13 PM

A group of councillors attached to the Kanthale Pradeshiya Sabha continued their hunger strike for the fourth consecutive day today within the premises of the pradeshiya sabha.

A recent proposal which was made within the house of the Kanthale Pradeshiya sabha to nullify the transfer handed over to the Secretariat of the Kanthale Pradeshiya sabha was endorsed by a majority of votes within the house.

The transfer had been handed down by the Eastern provincial council Secretariat.

However the group of provincial councillors commenced their hunger strike last Thursday charging that the Eastern Provincial Council Secretariat had enacted the transfer regardless of the motion.

They note that if this transfer is not withdrawn by tomorrow the group would engage in a fast unto death campaign.
