The Sri Lankan Ministry of External Affairs states that it will launch a fortified multiparty programme in close cooperation with the government of Australia to combat illegal migration.

A senior spokesperson for the Ministry of External affairs expressing his views to our news team stated that there was a recent escalation in the number of illegal Sri Lankan migrants attempting to crossover to Australia.

Speaking further he noted that a special security arrangement was in place to deter migrants from illegally entering Australian shores, an initiative which has been launched by Sri Lanka Navy.

At present it is reported that a multitude of illegal migrants set sail for Australia via Tamilnadu.

A large number of persons were arrested in areas adjacent to the countries shore line during recent raids which were carried out to nab illegal migrants.

Meanwhile S.C. Chandra-bhasan the Son of Illangei Thamil Arusu Katchi Patriarch S.J.V. Chelva-nayagam has compiled a special report on the illegal migration issue while in India.

According to Chandra-basan the fate of around 600 illegal migrants who had attempted to crossover to Australia via Tamilnadu has been left in doubt, with no concrete information concerning there whereabouts.

According to him serious doubts are said to have arisen over the vessels utilised to ferry these illegal aliens, which according to certain sources are conjectured to be vessels owned by the LTTE.

Moreover two persons who had illegally attempted to migrate to Australia have been arrested at the Uppuweli-Sambalthiv coastal line.

According to police media spokesperson SP Ajith Rohana the suspects had been placed under arrest last night along side another individual who had aided them.
