In giving nominations for the provincial council election, the SLFP Central Working Committee has decided not to grant nominations anyone against whom there are corruption charges.
The Central Working Committee met at Temple Trees yesterday under the
patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
At this meeting in granting nominations for the provincial council election it was decided to obtain police reports about former provincial councillors and new nomination applicants.
Reports say that the Central Working Committee also decided to suspend the membership of Provincial Councillors, Local Government institution heads and Divisional Councillors who have been subjected to accusations of child abuse and offences against women.
It is said that it was also decided at this meeting to authorise the Chief Ministers to remove persons subjected to such charges from the positions they hold.
SLFP General Secretary Minister Maitripaala Sirisena also has explained at length to the Central Working Committee with regard to the way the North Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern Provincial Council election campaigns will be carried out.
