Bus union states that fares could be reduced by 15%

Head of the All Ceylon Bus Operators' Federation convened a media briefing in Kurunegala this morning.

Chairman of the ACBOF Ruban Silva expressing his views during the media briefing stated that if the additional costs currently incurred by bus owners are waved off, there is a possibility of reducing bus fares by around 15%.

He also charged that the National Transport Board arbitrarily come forward with additional expense columns, burdening bus owners with additional costs.

Silva noted that such actions were motivated with the desire of gaining commissions.

Chairman of the ACBOF Ruban Silva also expressed his dissent against emission tests carried out on private buses, and noted that it was resentful to learn that busses owned by the Sri Lanka Transport Board did not under go such

tests.
