Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Keheliya Rambukwella states that incidents concerning character assassinations and coarse publications could be averted through the registration of news web sites.

Addressing the cabinet decisions press briefing held in Colombo today Minister Rambukwella noted that irrespective of new laws being formulated in this regard offenders would inevitably discover the Achilles heel.

Meanwhile, the Media Organisations Conglomerate launched a demonstration today which was followed by a seminar.

Several opposition political party leaders, civil activists & journalists were present during the demonstration which was observed before the Lipton Circus in Colombo this afternoon.

Subsequent to the protest, a seminar was conducted at the J.R. Jayawardhana

Centre.

JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath Expressing his views at the venue stated that all should align on behalf of preserving & promoting the rights of the common citizen.

Moreover, United National Party General Secretary Parliamentarian Thissa Aththanayaka who expressed his views subsequently stated that never before had such a media clamp-down been observed in the country’s history.

Leader of the Democratic Peoples Front Mano Ganeshan expressing his views during the seminar noted that disputes within the opposition created ample opportunity for the government.

TNA Parliamentarian M.A Sumandiran articulating his views during the seminar asserted that all political parties, media & Civil society organisations should converge on one common goal in order to uphold democracy within a country.
