UNP requests compensation worth 200,000 rupees

The United National Party states that the Government is responsible to provide a maximum compensation worth 200,000 rupees to a drought affected family in the North Central Province.

UNP Deputy Chairman Joseph Michael Perera addressing a press briefing in Colombo today went on to state that the Government should take steps to waive off the loans obtained by the farmers for cultivation purposes.

However, the Government proclaims that a maximum of 6,000 rupees will be allocated for a family affected by the on-going drought.
