The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has decided to contest for the upcoming Eastern Provincial Council election in alliance with the UPFA after a meeting of the SLMC supreme council.
Further the SLMC also decided to support the UPFA during the Sabaragamuwa and North Central provincial council elections at the meeting as well.
Prior to the meeting of the SLMC supreme council, leader of the SLMC Rauf Hakeem met with President Mahinda Rajapakse and a group of UPFA representatives.
Therefore for the Ampara District 6 contestants from the UPFA nominations list and 3 contestants each from the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts will be appointed according to the agreement between the SLMC and UPFA.
An MoU detailing this is scheduled to be signed by the SLMC and the UPFA.
