President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the Upper Kotmale hydro power project which adds 150 Mega Watts of power to the National Grid today.
Japanese ambassador to Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo also participated at the occasion.
It is the country’s largest hydro power generation project launched by the government as part of the programme to provide electricity to all households in the country by end of 2016.
The Japanese government extended financial assistance to the tune of 50.4 billion rupees for the project while Sri Lankan government invested 75 million dollars.
