A senior spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress states that the party would submit a request to the government to obtain the chief ministerial portfolio of the North if the party is able to procure more than 10 seats during the upcoming provincial polls in the Eastern province.
According to the SLMC spokesperson, the party hopes to garner 6 seats from the Ampara District, 3 seats each from the districts of Batticaloa & Trincomalee which brings the total count of seats to 12.
Speaking further he noted that if the SLMC is able to earn more than 10
in the Eastern Province it will be eligible to make demands for the North's Chief Ministerial office.
Subsequent to a discussion held between SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem & President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday, Congress decided to contest the upcoming polls in the East under the UPFA banner.
Meanwhile Senior Minister & Leader of the Sama Samaja Party Professor Thissa Witharana is currently in Ampara to explore the possibility of forming a common alliance between 5 leftist parties contesting the upcoming provincial polls in the Eastern province.
