The UNP says that persons prepared to contest for the Eastern Provincial Council after leaving the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress cannot lay down conditions for the UNP.
This was revealed at the discussion held between the UNP leaders and the senior Muslim Congress leaders yesterday.
At this discussion the UNP leaders had told the Muslim Congress leaders that if anyone contests for the Eastern Provincial Council via the UNP list, he should obtain the UNP membership.
Similarly at this meeting these UNP leaders pointed out that such persons should agree to the conditions put forward by the UNP.
However political sources say that the discussion held yesterday between the UNP and Muslim Congress leaders ended without consensus.
A senior UNP leader told our news team that in preparing the list of candidates for the Eastern Provincial Council, priority would be given to UNP Muslim candidates.
