The Supreme Council of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress convened an emergency meeting this morning in order to discuss the issues which have cropped up within the party with concern to contesting the upcoming polls in the East under the UPFA banner.
It is reported that Party General Secretary Hassan Ali had refused to ratify the nominations submitted under the UPFA list.
According to a spokesperson for the SLMC, issues pertaining to the reported ramification within the party would be discussed during the supreme council meeting which is currently in session.
Meanwhile sources state that factions within the SLMC which have refused to contest under the UPFA banner are preparing to contest the upcoming provincial polls in the East independently.
It is reported that these parties had failed at the discussion table to form an alliance with the United National Party.
