Asset statements called from election candidates.
Tuesday, 17 July 2012 - 08:11 AM

Provincial Council election candidates are to submit their assets and liability statements to the election department before election day.

A senior election secretariat spokesman said that all political parties and independent candidates contesting the election would be informed regarding this on the 23rd of this month.

The Election Commissioner has already informed that the election for the dissolved Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa provincial councils would be held on 1st, 8th or 15th of September.

Meanwhile accepting of nominations for the three dissolved provincial councils will end by 12 noon day-after-tomorrow.

The Election Department has decided to deploy election officials of districts, where election is not held, for scrutinising the nominations received.

During several elections in the past, charges were levelled against election officials regarding nominations and the decision was reached to prevent such allegations being levelled against the department.
