Tuesday, 17 July 2012 - 08:11 AM

The Memorandum of Understanding which is due to be signed between the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and the Government with regards to contesting the Eastern Provincial Council elections is due to be inked today.

According to a Senior Spokesperson from the SLMC, the Supreme Council of the party had arrived at this decision yesterday.

The Supreme Council of the SLMC had convened yesterday to settle the dispute within the party which had arisen with regards to contesting the Eastern province during the upcoming polls.

It was reported that SLMC party General Secretary Hassan Ali had declined to ratify nomination papers prepared by the UPFA, after the dispute over nominations had arisen.

However according to the SLMC, today’s MOU due to be inked between the SLMC and the government will not touch on the Chief Ministerial Portfolio of the East or provincial council ministerial port folios.
