The deadline for submitting nominations for the three dissolved provincial councils ended at 12 noon today.

The United National Party submitted their nominations for the Eastern Province and the Pollonnaruwa district.

The JVP also handed in their nominations for the Ampara District today.

Furthermore, the United People’s Freedom Alliance also submitted nominations for the Pollonnaruwa district and the Eastern province this morning.

Reports indicate that the names of the son of Deputy Minister M K D S Gunawardana and SLFP Trincomalee district organizer Ariyawathie Galappatti have also been included in the UPFA Trincomalee district nominations list.

Meanwhile, handing in UPFA nominations for the Anuradhapura district former Chief Minister of the North Central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayaka expressed his views.

According to the former chief minister he will hold the chief ministerial post until he dies owing to his popularity among the people.

Meanwhile, the National Freedom Front which lost its opportunity to contest the Trincomalee district under the UPFA handed in their independent nominations for the district today.

The group leader for the NFF is former parliamentarian Jayantha Wijesekara.

General Secretary of the NFF Priyanjith Witharana explained further.

Meanwhile, 5 Leftist parties representing the UPFA handed in their nominations for the Eastern Province under the Socialist People’s Front.

Political parties will be allowed to put forward their objections to the nominations lists after all the lists have been handed over today.

The Elections Commissioner will determine the dates for the elections after having considered the objections.
