Supreme Court orders UGC to submit reasons concerning contempt of court

The Supreme Court today ordered the chairman of the UGC to appear before court on the 23rd of this month since he had not taken steps to avoid contempt of court.

A three judge bench comprising of Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike issued this order subsequent to considering a motion which was filed by the Lanka Teacher Services Union.

The motion was filed by the LTSU to move court into providing a verdict which would expedite its previous judgment issued in connection to last years GCE Advanced Level Examination results.

Moreover, the court ordered the registrar of the UGC to notify the Chairman of the Commission concerning its order.
