Lawyers have decided to refrain from court duties island-wide today in
protest against the attack on the Mannar Court complex and incidents
causing threat to Mannar Court Judge.
Sri Lanka Lawyers' Union Chairman MP President's Counsel Wijedasa
Rajapaksa said that the Lawyers' Union Executive Committee which met
last afternoon had taken this decision.
Meanwhile the Court Judges' Union issuing a communique with regard to
the attack on the Mannar Magistrate's Court has demanded that the IGP
immediately arrest the groups connected to the incident.
They say that information has been received to the effect that it is a
gang of thugs headed by a Government Minister which has carried out
the attack on the Mannar Magistrate's Court while trying to show that
the attack had been carried out by a group of agitators.
Therefore the Judges' Union requests the IGP to take action to arrest
the Minister concerned and his gang of thugs.
