The ministry of health has stated that it is in the process of developing a method to bring back Sri Lankan doctors who are currently employed abroad.

The ministry further stated that there is a deficit of about 15,000 doctors in the island right now.

However it has been difficult to solve this issue as a significant amount of doctors leave the country after obtaining their residency.

During a special meeting held recently headed by the Minister of Health, it was decided to create a program to bring back Sri Lankan doctors to the island as soon as possible.

The ministry also stated that it will take the necessary steps to ensure these doctors receive all the facilities they require should they return to Sri Lanka and that it has been difficult to treat patients in rural hospitals due to the shortage of doctors.
