05 employees of Dayata Kirula mount signal post
Saturday, 21 July 2012 - 07:16 PM

A group of youth in the Anuradhapura District staged a protest today demanding that they be enrolled into service in the railway department as promised.

5 youth who mounted a railway signal post located before the Anuradhapura railway station staged a hunger strike, while a group consisting of around another 30 youth had staged a protest.

The group charge that they were enrolled into the railway department on a temporary basis during the period of the Dayata Kirula exhibition with the promise of being permanently enrolled into the service within 3 months.

However according to Indignant protesters this pledge had not materialised and another group of individuals had been enrolled to fill-in the promised vacancies in the railway department.

These were the views expressed by a protester at the location.

However when inquired from a senior official at the railway department he noted that these individuals had been enrolled into service based on daily wages during the period of the Dayata Kirula exhibition, and no promise had been extended to them concerning permanent employment.
