The Elections Secretariat states that postal voting for the Eastern, North Central & Sabaragamuwa provincial councils which were dissolved recently will commence on the 27th & 28th of August.
According to a senior spokesperson for the secretariat the certification of
postal voting documents will be carried out on the 2nd of August.
Accordingly the consignment of secure postal voting packages to the postal department will be done on the 20th of August.
The deadline provided for state sector employees to apply for postal votes expired on the 19th of July while the applications received at the elections secretariat in this regard are currently being perused.
Meanwhile Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya states that it would be possible to issue preferential numbers for candidates contesting the upcoming provincial polls by 4 p.m. tomorrow.
He also noted that it would be possible to issue preferential numbers for candidates contesting the Eastern provincial council by the 24th of July.
A total of 3073 candidates are in contention for the upcoming provincial polls
while the printing of ballot papers will be handed over to the government press tomorrow.
