As informed previously the Ceylon Electricity Board commenced the 2 hour 15 minute power cuts in several places around the island today.

Accordingly the power-cute will take affect in 4 time slots between 8:30am and 5:30pm for certain areas and also in 4 time slots between 6:30pm and 9:30pm

The CEB stated previously that the power-cuts are due to technical failures at the Kerawalapitiya West Coast and Puttlam Lak Wijaya power plants.

We spoke to Director of CEB Prof. Wimaladharma Abeywickrema regarding the repairs taking place at the thermal power plants.

Meanwhile, the United National Party referred to the power cuts at a media briefing held in Colombo today.

UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayaka alleged that the power cuts are a result of the lack of planning at the CEB.

However, Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka stated on several occasions that power cuts would not be resorted to.

The Minister echoed this at a press briefing held in Colombo on the 05th of this month.

However, when we spoke to the Minister once again regarding the power cuts yesterday, he stated that he did not make a statement to the effect that there would be no power cuts.
