Peru's president has reshuffled his cabinet and named a new prime minister following the deaths of five people in protests against a mining project.

Human rights lawyer and former Justice Minister Juan Jimenez will replace Oscar Valdes as prime minister.

Valdes, a former army officer, had faced criticism for his crackdown on the protesters.

Clashes between demonstrators and police over a US-financed project in the north flared earlier this month.
