A hunger strike has been launched by a group of students who have been
dealt unjustly concurrent to the release of the Z score cut-off marks.
The hunger strike is being launched before the Kalawana Zonal education office while students engaged in the protest represent the areas of Rathnapura, Kalawana, Ayagama & Nivithigala.
These students charge that those who sat the examination under the old syllabus have been greatly inconvenienced concurrent to the issuing of new z score
According to our correspondent around 80 students are said to have engaged in the protest.
Meanwhile several protests were launched in many parts of the island today
in an expression of dissent against the publication of the new Z score marks.
A group of students who organised a protest in the Kandy area demanded that officials attached to the Ministry of Education should take immediate steps to rectify the issue at hand.
Moreover around 300 students who gathered at the Vihara Mahadevi Amphitheatre in Colombo today engaged in a discussion concerning Z score results.
Meanwhile a media briefing was convened in Colombo this evening by the Education service sector trade unions.
Chairman of the Ceylon Teachers Union Mahinda Jayasinghe urged the government to provide immediate measures rectify the injustice which has been inflicted on students, concurrent to the revised issuing of Z score results.
Meanwhile the JVP states that the government is attempting to extricate its self
by blaming the opposition for the Z score results.
Speaking at a media briefing held today JVP MP Vijitha Herath Noted that the two subject ministers in this regard were acting in a frivolous manner.
Meanwhile a special number has been introduced by the UNP to register complaints of students who have been inconvenienced due to the revised issuing of Z score results.
