Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Karu Jayasuriya states that the upcoming provincial council polls can not be expected to be held in a free and fair manner.

Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo today, the MP also noted that although the election is not free and fair the UNP would contest it on behalf of the people.

Meanwhile the Frontline Socialist Party is preparing to engage in a door to door campaign handing out alternative election leaflets and alternative ballot boxes.

Speaking at a press conference held today Politburo member of the FSP Chameera Koswatta stated that an alternative political campaign will be carried out in the 3 provinces in which the provincial council elections will be held.

He further stated that during this alternative campaign the general public will be able to write their grievances against the government on the alternative ballot paper and put them into the ballot box.
