The issues in the education sector are worsening day by day with the new Z score calculations and the university lecturer’s protests.
Students who sat for the GCE A/L examination last year are yet to receive a proper solution for their issues.
The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has received 938 complaints so far regarding this issue.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Deputy Chairman of the University Grants Commission were both summoned to the Human Rights Commission today regarding these complaints.
Human Rights Commissioner Dr.Prathiba Mahanamahewa stated that it was decided to forward this issue to the Supreme Court through the Attorney General.
The student protests against the latest Z score calculations are still in effect.
A group of students who sat the GCE A/L exam last year and lost their university entrance due to the new z score calculations, have been protesting outside the Kalawana bus stand for the last 4 days.
The students allege that education authorities are yet to provide solutions to their problems.
The students also warn that if a solution is not provided within 24 hours, they will commence a fast unto death.

Meanwhile, a group of students who sat the GCE A/L under the old syllabus also staged a protest in Rathnapura today.
Meanwhile, speaking at a function held in Dehiwela today, Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dallas Allahapperuma stated that President Mahinda Rajapakse will not allow any student to face an injustice.
Meanwhile, university lecturers are also still to receive solutions to their issues.
Minister of Higher Education S B Dissanayaka requested the lecturers to report to work on Monday taking into consideration the future of the student population.
In a statement released, the minister noted that the university lecturer’s strike has disrupted work at all universities and has also resulted in a delay in recruiting new students.
However, the Federation of University Teacher’s Association is of a different view.
Chairman of FUTA Dr.Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri stated that they will not give up their trade union stance until a solution to their issue is provided.
