President Mahinda Rajapakse has informed officials to take immediate steps to remove any unauthorized dwellers in forest reserve areas.
Attending a district development committee meeting in Kurunegala today, the President requested for all illegal inhabitants close to elephant paths to be relocated.
The President also noted that he has been informed that over 500 hectares have been illegally claimed and reiterated that no one has the authority to claim state lands.
Discussions were held about the elephant – human conflict which is prevalent in the Kurunegala district.
President Rajapakse also noted that solutions that are fair by both humans and elephants need to be formulated.
