Friday, 27 July 2012 - 07:54 PM

Joolampitiye Amare became a well known character after two people were killed in a shooting that took place at a JVP meeting in Katuwana.

Several stories were formulated about this individual after this incident.

Our news team was informed of a man who attempted to use Joolampitiye Amare’s name for his own gain in Walasmulla.

Two persons had attempted to obtain a ransom of 500,000 rupees from a businessman in the area by posing as Joolampitiye Amare on the 18th of July.

After the police were informed of the incident, they had negotiated the amount down to 100,000 rupees.

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tangalle Police arrested the two men when they attempted to collect the ransom.

Meanwhile, the real Joolampitiye Amare and two other suspects were due to be produced at the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court today.

However, since today’s court proceedings were postponed until the 03rd of August, the suspects were not brought to court.
