Sri Lanka Navy today rescued 28 persons from an asylum seeker boat in trouble, which had attempted to flee to Australia.

Sri Lanka Navy had sought the assistance of a merchant vessel to rescue the group in distress and they were later brought to the Galle Harbour on a Navy vessel.

The Australia-bound group of illegal migrants had reportedly set sail from Valaichenai on July 13th.
