The Ceylon Electricity Board has decided to switch off 50% of the street lights in the country from tomorrow.
The decision was taken during a discussion held between Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and provincial representatives.
The CEB estimates that there are over 800,000 street lamps around the island.
The minister also noted that the cost of generating enough electricity to work one light bulb has increased owing to the drought conditions.
Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka explained the progress further.
