The Ministry of Agrarian Services And Wild Life has taken steps to conduct 500 pirith chanting ceremonies the island over in a bid to end the prevalent drought
and obtain rains.
According to subject minister S.M. Chandrasena the initial ceremony in this regard will commence upon the bank of the Kala-wewa on the 07th of this month.
Meanwhile the Met department states that it expects the prevalent drought conditions to persist further. According to Duty officer at the Met department Merril Mendis, the current trend in dry weather patterns are expected to last until the latter part of September or the beginning of October.
