A meeting was convened between secretaries of all political parties and Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya today at the Elections Secretariat in Rajagiriya.
Speaking during the meeting Additional Elections Commissioner R.M.A.L. Rathnayeke noted that special attention is being focussed on providing the estate population with an opportunity of casting their votes during the wee hours of the elections day.
Speaking further he noted that based on the request of political parties, arrangements on this behalf could be made via the consent of estate superintendents.
General Secretary of the UPFA Minister Susil Premajayantha expressed these views with concern to today's meeting between political party representatives and the elections commissioner.
General Secretary of the United National Party Thissa Aththanayeke Speaking to our news team noted that the Elections Commissioner had dispensed of several guidelines on how to conduct the upcoming polls in a reliable manner.
Moreover JVP MP Sunil Handunneththi added that steps had been taken to inform the elections commissioner regarding the flouting of election laws.
Elections commissioner Mahinda deshapriya who subsequently expressed his views to the media noted that there was a noticeable decline in the use of election related posters and cut outs this time around .
