The Mount Lavinia District Courts today issued an enjoining order effective until the 22nd of this month against the term extension of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today.

District Judge Priyantha Fernando issued the enjoining order when a petition filed by UNP Southern Provincial Councillor Maithree Gunarathna was taken up before courts today.

The petitioners had noted that the leadership of the party aided by its working committee had violated the party constitution by extending the office tenure of its leader to 06 years instead of a two year term.

Accordingly those cited in the petition including party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and 85 party working committee members were issued notice to

be present before court when the case is to be taken up again on the 22nd of this month.

Southern provincial councillor & Attorney at law Maithree Gunarathna expressed these views to our news team subsequent to court proceedings.
