Accused commuted death sentence slits throat at courts.

It is reported that an accused that had been commuted the death sentence at the Nuwara Eliya high Court has slit his throat with a blade during sentencing.

The accused had been charged with the murder of a woman on July 17th 2006, in the Hatton, Dikoya area.

Facts presented government attorney Charaka Dharmasiri were subsequently sustained by Nuwara Eliya High Court judge M.M.A Gafoor and the suspect was commuted the death sentence.

However the accused has been admitted to the Kandy General Hospital & is currently receiving treatment.

According to sources the victim's is said to be in a non serious state.
