30 Mega Watts of electric power generated by 3 power plants operating on wind turbines located in the areas of Puttlam, Daluwa & Sethapola was synchronised to the national grid today.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony in this regard Minister of Power & Energy Patali Champika Ranawake noted that steps would be taken to establish wind farms in the areas of Mannar & Poonarin.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Power & Energy states that power cuts will be in effect within the course of tomorrow as well.
These power cuts will be in effect between 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. under 04 phases, while each phase has been scheduled for 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The power cuts have been attributed a failure at the Norochcholai power plant.
However addressing a gathering held in Mannar today UNP MP Harin Fernando
severely criticized the Minister of Power and Energy & the current power cuts.
Meanwhile Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was questioned by journalists during Today's cabinet media briefing regarding the failure at the Norochcholai power plant.
Speaking further Minister Rambukwella stated that a special study was due to be conducted on methods of conserving water in the face of the prevalent drought.
