The Colombo District Court today issued an enjoining order on the UNP-affiliated National Lawyers’ Association preventing the newly appointed Executive Committee functioning within the Association until the 23rd of August

The petitioners had cited that Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had taken measures to appoint Thilak Marapana & Nishshanka Nanayakkara to the posts of Chairman & Secretary of the National Lawyers' Association in place of current office bearers Attorney at law Upul Jayasooriya & Gunarathna Wanninayeke respectively.

District Judge Dhammika Ganepola who considered the petition filed in this regard thereby issued the enjoining order.

Accordingly, the case will be taken up before courts on the 23rd of this month, while the opposition leader has been ordered to be present before courts

on the day of the trial.

Moreover the Mount Lavinia Magistrates court issued an enjoining order yesterday temporarily suspending the UNP's Working Committee decision to extend the party's leadership tenure to 6 years.
