A protest that was observed before the Badulla General Hospital by its junior staff was dispersed by the police this morning.
The protesters urged authorities to apprehend the culprits behind an accident which claimed the life of a junior worker attached to the hospital last evening.
The accident had occurred on the road running parallel before the hospital.
Vehicular traffic along the Badulla-Bandarawela main road was also hampered due to the occupation of protesters.
Subsequently police had dispersed the crowd utilising tear gas.
During the dispersion it is reported that a clash had erupted between protesters and police.
According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana the Badulla OIC who had sustained injuries during the clash has been admitted to hospital.
However according to the Government Medical Officers Association a Lady Doctor who had been enmeshed during the tear gas attack has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Badulla General Hospital.
Furthermore Media Spokesperson of the GMOA Dr. Nalin Soysa speaking to our news team noted that a ward of the Badulla General hospital was evacuated due to the tear gas attack launched by police.
