Panadura Magistrate Ranga Dissanayeke today issued notice to Minister of
Industries & Commerce Rishard Bathiyutheen to be present before court
on the 27th of this month.
The court order was issued when the case filed against Minister Bathiyutheen was taken up before the Mannar Courts, with the Panadura Magistrate Ranga Dissanayeke presiding over it.
In the court case filed against him, charges have been levelled against Minister Bathiyutheen for intimidating Mannar Magistrate A. Judeson.
The CID presenting court with a report noted that Minister Bathiyutheen was interrogated regarding a complaint filed by the Mannar Magistrate, in which it was stated that the Minister had threatened Justice Judson.
However CID informed courts that since the minister had declined the charges during interrogation no arrests were made.
When the case was taken up, the Mannar Magistrate as well as an inspector of the Criminal Investigations Department was present in court to submit evidence against minister Bathiyutheen.
Subsequent to have considered facts presented before courts, Panadura Magistrate Ranga Dissanayeke had issued notice to Minister Bathiyutheen to be present before courts on the 27th of this month.
Moreover Mannar Magistrate A. Judeson had submitted a written notification to the Judicial Services Commission that it was inappropriate that he presides over a case in which he was the plaintiff.
Accordingly the case was conferred to Panadura Magistrate Ranga Dissanayeke.
