Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has instructed that Government vehicles deployed by candidates for provincial council election propaganda be immediately taken into police custody.
It is said that complaints of use of Government vehicles for election propaganda in certain provincial council election held areas was the reason for this new step.
Complaints have been received saying that State property is used for propaganda in the Kegalle, Anuradhapura and Ratnapura districts.
It has been planned for the police to apprehend the vehicles misused for election propaganda and put them under chief provincial council secretaries.
Meanwhile postal voting cards relevant to the provincial council election are scheduled to be handed over to the Certifying Officers today.
It has been planned to hold the postal voting on 27th and 28th of this month.
