The Centre for Disaster Management stated that approximately 100 Army personnel have been deployed to control the forest fire which had erupted in the Ududumbara region in the Knuckles reserve this morning.
The deputy director of the media unit of the Centre for Disaster Management, Sarath Lal Kumara stated that although the raging inferno that was ravaging the Knuckles reserve had been brought under control last night, the fire had erupted again this morning.
Arson has been reported as the main cause of the forest fires that devastated the forest reserves in the recent past and 3 individuals have been arrested in relation with these incidents.
The Centre for Disaster Management further stated that CID assistance has been obtained in order to gather information regarding such arsonists.
