Minister Dullus Alahapperuma states that United Peoples Freedom Alliance is ready to drop the number of MP's for the Eastern Provincial council with concern to the challenge issued to the United National Party.
Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today Minister Alahapperuma
recalled the challenge issued to the UNP where the party was challenged to
to obtain at least 6 seats during the upcoming polls for the Eastern provincial council.
Meanwhile General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Maithreepala Sirisena was absent during today's media briefing.
However minister Maithreepala’s statement made with concern to the presidential poll in 1994 which led to the downfall of then UNP Presidential candidate Gamini Dissanayake continues to create ripples in the political arena.

Minister Dullus Alhapperuma today made a similar revelation concerning a statement made by UNP MP Sajith Premadasa during the run up to the presidential polls in 2005, which eventually led to the defeat of then UNP Presidential Candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe.
