Our news team today received some positive information regarding a supposed halt to the strike launched by the Federation of University Teachers Association.
This was subsequent to a meeting held between FUTA office bearers & officials from the Ministry of Economic Development.
During the meeting both parties had been able to arrive at common grounds
concerning salary increments & increased allocations for education through the countries GDP.
Today's discussions were followed by a meeting held between Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa & FUTA officials yesterday.
Secretary of the FUTA Dr. Mahim Mendis had this to say concerning the successive discussions.
Moreover FUTA officials engaged in discussions with the Minister of Labour today.
During these talks both parties had agreed to meet next week based on the progressed achieved during talks held with the ministry of Economic Development.
Meanwhile the Lanka Teacher Services Union states that teachers representing
the Union will refrain from correcting Advanced Level Examination papers.
Chief Secretary of the LTSU Mahinda Jayasinghe speaking further stated that
until the Union receives confirmation from the FUTA it will not partake in the correction of Advanced Level Examination papers.
