A protest as well as a public rally organised by the Federation of University Teachers Association was held at Hyde Park grounds this evening.

Today marks 50th day of the strike launched by the FUTA.

Several media briefings held in Colombo today meanwhile focussed on the

status quo surrounding FUTA's strike.

United National Party MP Karu Jayasooriya stressed that the government should take immediate measures to solve the crisis at hand.

However Cabinet Media spokesperson Minister Keheliya Rambukwella had this to say concerning FUTA's stance.

The Ministers comments came during today's cabinet decision media briefing.

However the protest march organised by FUTA induced heavy traffic congestion

in Colombo today.

Chairman of the FUTA Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri who par-took in the protest march held in Colombo this evening expressed the following views.
