Three stores with goods to be offered to voters by UPFA Chief Minister candidate Berty Premalal Dissanayake in Anuradhapura have been sealed by officials of the Elections Department.

It is said that the stores had contained agricultural equipment to be distributed to public, in a manner that would violate election laws.

The Department of Elections stated that the raid was conducted following complaints received.

Meanwhile the Elections Department has asked Deputy Minister Weerakumara Dissanayake to vacate a government circuit bungalow occupied by him and a group of supporters.

He is alleged to have been using the bungalow to carry out election activities in the Anuradhapura district.

According to a complaint lodged at the Elections Department the deputy minister had been occupying the circuit bungalow belonging to the Building Materials Corporation in Anuradhapura.

The Department had ordered the Deputy Minister to vacate the bungalow as soon as possible because the use of state resources for political work in the run-up to an election was illegal.

Moreover 18 suspects have been arrested in connection to election related violence incidents.

According to Senior DIG Gamini Nawarathna 44 minor complaints regarding election violence have been received at present
